According to Estonian artist Reiu Tüür, his eleven years in Lithuania is a non-stop performance. Sometimes this experience is giving birth to the paintings, and some of them are remaining just as ideas.

“One painting is enough to change the mindset of a person”, says the artist.

He has been exhibiting his works actively since 1993 and has shown his works in Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, other galleries of European cities as well as New York. The former manager of Tallinn’s Kunstihoone, the founder and the rector of the independent art academy Academia Grata, Reiu is convinced that Lithuanian and Estonian art is very similar.

“For every Lithuanian artist I could find an equivalent in Estonia. However, both sides are thinking that they are so specific and unique”, says Reiu.

In his works, the artist likes to explore the details of the past – people, who are no longer here, lives that we have forgotten, and cities, which cannot be entered any more. In Reiu Tüür’s paintings one will recognise Vilnius, and other European cities, and the motives of the most famous works of Renaissance.

Reiu Tüür has graduated from Estonian Academy of Arts (Graphic Art, bachelor’s, master’s) in 1998; he has obtained Master’s in arts management in London City University in 2001. Since 1993, Reiu Tüür has been the member of Kursi Koolkond artist group; he is a member of Estonian Artists’ Association since 1994. 

Reiu Tüür’s art work can be found in Estonian art museums’ collections, his paintings are owned by private collectors in Estonia, Austria, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, Lithuania and they are exposed in public spaces across Europe.
