Not a Muse, but a Creator: The Gallery's Most Popular Women Artists

Da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Nelli. Everyone knows the first two names, but if you haven't heard the last one, that's fine. Although Plautilla Nelli's biblical works were no less accomplished than those of her male contemporaries, most art history books forgot her, dismissing her as just another nun with a paintbrush.

Although statistics show that even today most works hanging in art museums are by men, in our gallery women artists are cherished and celebrated.

While the gallery has never intended to promote artists of one gender over another, we counted and found that, quite naturally, women make up 56% of the artists selling on the Lithuanian art platform www.paveikslai.lt. It's also worth noting that Lithuanian women creators tend to be more active.

On International Women's Day, we celebrate women's creativity and share the works of the gallery's most popular women artists.
