Giclée Print on Canvas - What Is It?

What Is Giclée Printing?
Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay" [ˈʒiːkleɪ]) is an inkjet printing technique used on canvas, paper, or photo paper, capable of achieving the highest possible quality. This method is used to print high-resolution graphic works, reproductions of artworks, professional photographs, and other works that demand only the finest quality. Reproductions printed this way look just like the original — their surface shows brushstrokes you'll want to touch with your fingers. Works printed with a Giclée printer are long-lasting and ideal for archival storage. The inks used are environmentally friendly, and with proper care, prints can remain unchanged for many years.
What Is a Reproduction?
A reproduction is a copy of an artwork recreated through printing. We print using a CANON© PRO printer — the highest-quality pigment printing available, far superior to solvent-based printing. We use genuine, natural Canon canvas designed specifically for artworks, stretched over a Lithuanian wooden stretcher frame. The artist receives a royalty for the use of their work with every reproduction produced.
What Is Pigment Printing?
Canvas is most commonly printed using two methods — solvent-based and pigment-based. The two differ significantly, above all in quality and color vibrancy. Solvent printing is better suited to banners and advertising production, and hanging a cheaply printed solvent photo canvas at home can even be harmful to health, since solvent-type inks gradually release toxic substances. The pigment ink and varnish we use are water-based and pose no harm to the printer, the environment, or the customer. When properly prepared, this type of print is long-lasting, fade-resistant, and remains unchanged for many years — making such reproductions suitable for archival purposes.
What Is a Digital Artwork?
Some of the artists featured in our gallery create their work not with paint, but with the help of a computer. In that case, the only way to "materialize" such a work is through printing. The canvas printing we offer is the highest-quality way to do this.
I Have My Own Photo / Artwork I'd Like Printed in the Highest Quality. Is That Possible?
Of course it's possible! We print using a CANON PRO series printer. The maximum print width is 1 meter. We print on 340g semi-natural canvas. The file must be prepared at 300 dpi resolution (minimum resolution is 150 dpi, maximum is 2400 dpi) with a 5 cm bleed margin. Please send us your file via www.wetransfer.com. You can calculate the printing price on our workshop's website www.rėmai.lt. Simply choose a stretcher frame, enter the required size, and select "Pigment Giclée Print on Canvas".
