1. Morgan Freeman spent most of his youth acting Off-Broadway.

Fame only came after his Hollywood debut in the film Glory. The actor was 52 at the time.

In his twenties, Van Gogh worked as an art dealer, a teacher, and a missionary. It was only at 27 that he decided to enroll in art school, and he created his most famous works only in his mid-thirties.

The American Civil War probably meant there were more important things to do than scribble away, but until he was 30, hardly anyone even knew he wrote at all. Before "Tom Sawyer," published when he was 41, Twain wrote short prose pieces.
