"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+
The painting "Traveler" by Kristina Česonytė is bold and expressive. A large face takes center stage. It's outlined in thick, dark lines. The face seems abstract, with closed eyes and a slight smile. Around it, there's a splash of colors—blues, reds, and yellows. These colors are messy, almost spontaneous. Different patches and strokes create a lively background. The style is abstract and modern. It feels unstructured yet intentional. Česonytė’s work often explores this free form. The mix of colors and lines suggests movement and journey. It’s as if the portrait is moving through time and space. The piece evokes a sense of wandering and exploration.
