Painting in the room
"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+
This painting by Kristina Česonytė, titled "Sketch of David," captures a striking profile view of a face. The artwork is done on a cardboard-like background, giving it a raw and textured look. The artist uses bold, red lines to sketch the contours and features of the face, along with white highlights that add depth and dimension. The face has a classical feel, reminiscent of sculptures from the Renaissance, characterized by the detailed curls and a sense of serenity in the subject’s expression. Česonytė's style in this sketch is loose and expressive, focusing more on the movement and emotion conveyed by the strokes rather than precise anatomical detail. The use of minimal colors—just the red and white on a natural background—enhances the dramatic and artistic impact of the piece. This artwork is a beautiful example of modern expressionism intertwined with classical influences.
