Painting in the room
"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+
This painting features a cluster of kitchen pots and containers. They're drawn with bold, sketchy lines, mostly in black and white against a textured background. The background is a rich cream color with brush strokes that give a sense of movement. Kristina Česonytė uses an expressive style here. Her technique includes thick application of paint and visible brushwork. This gives the objects a rugged, tactile feel. The painting's simplicity directs our focus on the shapes and textures of the everyday objects, possibly suggesting a deeper narrative about domestic life. Kristina's approach mixes abstraction with hints of realism. It's an interesting way to capture such familiar items, making us look at them anew.
