"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

The painting presents a symmetrically organized grid composed of various circular and square shapes, each contained within its own square frame. The circles and squares feature different materials and textures. There are elements of plain wood, wood with grain, marbled textures, and solid colors ranging from white to different shades of beige and cream. Some squares are filled with simple, smooth surfaces, while others are adorned with what looks like recycled, processed materials speckled with fragments. The overall color palette is muted, emphasizing natural tones and creating a harmonious, understated aesthetic. The frame around the grid is classic, with a distressed silver finish, suggesting a blend of modern art with traditional presentation.
