"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

The painting depicts two figures standing closely, portrayed in a stark, abstract style. Their forms are simplified and somewhat elongated, with distinct, bold black outlines against a textured, predominantly white and gray background that suggests a rough, dynamic surface. The figures appear gender neutral, lacking detailed facial features but positioned in a manner that suggests intimacy and companionship, possibly gazing outward or at something in the distance. Their posture and the way they stand side by side convey a sense of mutual support and friendship. The overall composition emphasizes contrast and the interplay of light and shadow, giving the figures a strong, almost sculptural presence amidst the swirling marks that envelop them.
