"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

In this painting by Kristina Česonytė, titled "As If It's From the Cat Family," we see a flurry of cat-like creatures. They are blended into a light teal background. The figures are sketched in a loose, flowing style. Each cat's form is outlined in a darker tone with details in orange and white. The style is abstract and dynamic. It gives a sense of motion and playfulness. Kristina Česonytė uses swirls and curving lines to capture the essence of these creatures. It seems as if the cats are moving or perhaps floating in a dreamy space. This artwork has a whimsical quality. The use of bright and pastel colors enhances this effect. The artist's approach makes the viewer feel like they are glimpsing into a magical, feline world. Each stroke and shape invites curiosity about these enigmatic figures.
