Illustrator and artist G. Seniūnienė is an artist whose creative journey is closely tied to children’s literature. Her book illustrations and paintings are characterized by playfulness, hope, and light (things that are sorely lacking in our lives).

It is impossible to confine the creative world of book illustrator Giedrė Seniūnienė solely to the concept of book illustration. The artist has also ventured into free artistic expression, where another facet of her artistic personality is revealed. Here, illustrative elements intertwine with painterly imagination, decorative qualities, and a distinctive color palette.

In her canvases, one can find echoes of the world of childhood—playful characters, birds, angels, natural motifs, and fantastical creatures. Color here does not so much replicate reality as it transforms it.

Giedrė collaborates with the public institution “Gabrielė Art Gallery,” is a member of the Italian cultural confederation CONF.E.P.I., and a member of the international Italian-Lithuanian association DU KRANTAI.

The artist’s world is grounded in faith, miracles, kindness, and protection. The recurring angel motifs in her work express this belief particularly clearly.

The artist has said that she believes every person has their own guardian angel. Therefore, the images of angels in her paintings become not only an iconographic motif but also a metaphor for emotional protection.

About this artwork+

The painting depicts a curious interplay of birds and blossoms predominantly rendered in shades of pink and black. A prominent black thrush dominates the center, detailed with strokes of white and yellow that give life to its eye and add texture to its feathers. Surrounding the thrush are several abstract forms of pink birds, their shapes simplified but expressive. These lighter birds appear almost as blossoms themselves, connected visibly by flowing, vibrant pink strokes that suggest petals or wings in motion. The background melds into a blend of darker hues, interrupted by vertical drips and splashes that introduce a sense of rain or decay. The overall effect is one of dynamic contrast—between the dark, detailed thrush and the lighter, more ethereal birds, between motion and stillness.
