Vytautas Laisonas, born in 1965 in the village of Srėbiškis, draws profound creative inspiration from nature. His childhood in the countryside has left a lasting mark on his perspective, compelling him to capture the tranquil beauty and subtle variety of the natural world in his art. Observing Laisonas’ paintings, one can clearly see his appreciation for the pristine perfection of untouched landscapes, which frequently reflect memories from his early years.

Vytautas Laisonas’ landscapes are notable for their focus on the familiar and everyday. Rather than pursuing rare or dramatic scenery, as many artists do, Laisonas chooses to depict ordinary surroundings—fields, rivers, lake shores, and distant horizons that invite viewers to pause and reflect. Although his subjects may appear commonplace, he transforms them through new and inviting perspectives on paths, meadows, and clearings, encouraging others to find renewed beauty in their own environments.

In his painting, Laisonas often shifts the viewer’s vantage point: sometimes positioning the gaze among low grasses, at other times from atop gentle hills, or even immersed in quiet streams. These varying perspectives serve not only to document the land but also to express unique atmospheres and emotions. Through skillful portrayals of sky and water—be it the weighty, rising clouds heralding a summer storm or the serene surface of a lake mirroring an unclouded sky—Laisonas presents water as a recurring motif, symbolizing it as a timeless and vital essence of life in his work.

The artist’s color choices are guided by calming greens and blues, which appear both limitless and effortlessly authentic. These hues form balanced compositions that introduce a sense of tranquility and harmony, mirroring the peacefulness of nature itself.
